True Rest

Friends,

When planning a vacation, our imagination makes out to be a time of endless relaxation and fun. We get excited about the prospect of enjoying every minute of every day, even if it just means sleeping in. Unfortunately, there is the aftermath... an inbox full of messages, a desk piled high with work, and a group of (perhaps secretly envious) coworkers who expect you to be ready to throw yourself back into the ring. After all, you've been relaxing for the last 2 weeks; you should be full of energy.

Thankfully, there is another kind of rest. It is a real rest.

1 Kings 5:4-5 [NKJV]
But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary nor evil occurrence.
And behold, I propose to build a house for the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spoke to my father David, saying, "Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your place, he shall build the house for My name."

When the LORD brings us into salvation, He gives us the kind of rest that we only dream about. And in truth, those dreams don't even come close to the rest that God promises ... and delivers. Imagine being at war; not for years, or even decades, but for generations. And then, that war comes to an end, not with an uneasy truce but with total victory and complete peace. The sounds of battle quickly become a faded memory, replaced by the beautiful movement of every day life. It is as if the entire world is breathing a sigh of relief.

Aaaaaaaahhhhh... rest.

That kind of rest and peace is available to every believer. He holds it out to you and to me. He holds nothing of this gift back. And if you are not experiencing it today, then turn to His word. He will speak to you, wherever you are and whatever you're doing. And His peace will begin to flow and His rest will fill you.

Be encouraged,
Jose
