Afraid to hear from God?

Friends,

The LORD wants to talk to you and to me. He has been speaking to His people for thousands of years. But His people often don't want to hear it. This is nothing new. Israel, when they were at the mountain getting God's commands directly from His mouth, just wanted to shut their ears and say, "La la la la la."

Exodus 20:18-19 [NKJV]
Now all the people witnessed the thunderings, the lightning flashes, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off. Then they said to Moses, "You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die."

Almighty God has shown us that He is powerful, holy and perfectly demanding. He has also proven that He is generous beyond imagination, tender, loving and patient beyond comprehension, and more protective than a mother bear. In short, our God has demonstrated that He is our Father, and as a perfect Father, He would never hurt us nor allow anything to hurt us.

Knowing all of this, why then would we be afraid to hear from Him? Is it because we know that we have fallen short of His standard of holiness? Is it because He may tell us things that our flesh doesn't want to hear? Are these good reasons?

Brothers and sisters, open the ears of your heart. Listen for His voice. Go to His word so that you recognize Him when He speaks. The Father wants to speak to you. He wants you to obey Him, which requires that you hear Him. Again, open your heart to the voice of the Good Shepherd and experience His true blessing.

Be encouraged,
Jose
