Doing Good Mindset

Now when He had departed from there, He went into their synagogue. And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—that they might accuse Him. Then He said to them, “What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” Then He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other. Then the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him.
Mathew 12:9-14 (NKJV)

When people are passionately motivated by a motive, goal and mindset, it sometimes (or most times) trump their sense of good or bad. Their minds are vigorously manipulated to pursue every action to justify their motive. The Pharisees plotted to bring down and nail the Savior through all sort of means. The well being of their fellow human being or nothing seems to matter. To the them, only the end justifies the means. Everyting, including God's creation is a veritable tool in their hands to pursue their expected ends.

However the Savior appealed to their heart and soul to elevate the pursuit of doing good over evil, laws, all motives, and intent that are not in line with God's will. The doing good mindset is spirit driven, one whose intent are sincere, true and means well. Are all our motives aligned with His will? Do we pursue goals solely to gratify self or be a means to serve mankind? The Savior's act as recorded in the scripture was propelled towards the common good for the Kingdom. Are your motives driven by passion for the common good and Kingdom causes?

Be encourged,

Afolabi
