The Shepherd's heart

Then David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
1 Samuel 17:26 (NKJV)

Israel had been intimidated for a long time by the armies of Philistine. Their adversary was a colossal figure, huge, imposing and intimidating. His description by warfare standards would make any opponent cringe and crumble at the sight of this Philistine Champion. But David hearing and seeing the trauma and dread that fell on his people as a result of the threats and rants from Goliath was moved and wanted this 'reproach on his people' taken away. Just like the good Shepherd that never allows reproach and harm to come our way so was David prepared to do battle in the face of danger and a formidable adversary.

Do you have the Shepherd's heart? Do you use the talent and strength that the Lord has given you to emancipate the weak or do you use these to exploit them? We must be driven by this simple example of the Shepherd's heart because we are our brother's keeper.

Be encouraged,

Afolabi
