Where satisfaction can lead

The quest for satisfaction can lead people into some pretty awful situations.
We have given our hand to the Egyptians
And the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread. -- Lamentation 5:6 (NKJV)
In those ancient times, God's people put themselves into slavery in order to achieve a measure of satisfaction. And this is no less true today than it was then. How many marriages lay in shambles over the desire for immediate, yet illicit, gratification? How many children, and children's children, are deeply scarred by their parents' career ambitions? Be honest, brethren, and admit that we flirt with these kinds of dangers every day.

Speaking through Paul, our brother and apostle, the Lord has given us a proven method for staying out of this spiral of trouble.

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. -- Philippians 4:12 (NKJV)
With personal perseverance and determination, living to this standard is impossible. But with the power of the Spirit in full operation, we can find peace and contentment that is the envy of the world.
