New Year - New Start - Same God

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein. Hebrews 13:8-9 [KJV]

With the start of the new year, we all look to start fresh, make resolutions about things that we decided that we need to do differently. However, I am pleased to report that Jesus Christ is the same. He is unchanging and unwavering.

With the changes, we hope to make in the new year, we know that the one constant is Christ. So as we begin a new year and ready to start new habits and break old habits. Remember that to start something new as a habit, we have to do it 40 times in a row. Also, if we are breaking a habit, we need to replace it with something else or we will be in a worse state. Remember the message from Christ concerning this:

When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation. Matthew 12:43-45 [KJV]

So add something new to replace the habits, like praying, reading the Bible, writing a devotion, recording thoughts in a journal. Fill that space with something that will reflect your devotion to God.

Be Encouraged,

Martin
