Catching holiness

Friends,

One of the reasons why my wife and I like to get to know our children's friends is because we want to be sure that they are spending time with people of good character. I'm sure we're not alone in this desire. Our Father wants the same for us ...

“Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘Now, ask the priests concerning the law, saying, “If one carries holy meat in the fold of his garment, and with the edge he touches bread or stew, wine or oil, or any food, will it become holy?”’”
Then the priests answered and said, “No.”
And Haggai said, “If one who is unclean because of a dead body touches any of these, will it be unclean?”
So the priests answered and said, “It shall be unclean.”
Haggai 2:11-13 [NKJV]

In this passage, the LORD is showing us what happens when we - His people - mix and mingle with the things of the world. Our presence does not make unholy things holy. Any more than when a sick person is around a healthy one, the sick one gets better.

However, there is a danger. For when the unholy thing touches the holy, it is the holy thing that becomes unclean. In the same way that a contagion spreads from the one who is ill to the one who is healthy.

Sisters and brothers, we are commanded to preach the Gospel to the lost, and that means we must go to where they are. We are constrained to live in the world by our created makeup. But we are also commanded to live spirit-filled life, not a carnally-filled life. To be in the world, but not of the world. So guard yourself. Be mindful of that which is near you. Be sure that you seek to surround yourself with what is holy that you will remain holy and sanctified and presentable to the Father.

Be encouraged, Jose
