...but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way.
Matthew 13:25 (NKJV)
The common adversary isn't dumb and naive about his ultimate agenda of stealing, killing and destroying. He chooses our most vulnerable moments, when our strength is at an all time low, when we are at our weakest. The adversary strategy is relentless, gradual and consistent. Hence we must never grow weary or go it alone because human strength is no match for this adversary but the power of the Holy Spirit that is in us.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV)
Let us be circumspect, cautious and be vigilant and never give away to sleep like others do. Our environment must not define us, but rather we must define our world according to Kingdom principles. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober (1 Thessalonians 5:6).

Not Business as usual
3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
1 Thessalonians 5:3-6 (NKJV)
We have hear and read the phrase description of the the day of the Lord. Yes the scripture makes it so clear that the day of the Lord will be like a thief in the night. The thief is not usually expected. The uninsured is overtaken and caught unawares when an accident occurs. For every believer, this must never be the case.
7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. 8 But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.
1 Thessalonians 5:7-10 (NKJV)
We must never sleep like the world, but we must remain vigilant in our daily walk and thoughts lest we get caught unawares like a thief in the night. Our appointment and portion isn't for wrath but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. Be Sober and vigilant and ...

No Sleeping
1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. 2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
1 Thessalonians 5:1-2,6 (NKJV)
The swiftness and constant change of values in our society calls for concern. Long held biblical beliefs and the Family unit as we know it has come under intense and sustained attack on all sides. The very foundation of God's plan for man and the world have been confronted too. Seems we have a determined and relentless foe. To take our eyes off the ball will be too costly and devastating.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV)
Can we really afford indolence, care-free and a disconnected lifestyle when it comes to Kingdom agenda? We have too much at stake. Sleeping and Carousing and meddling with things with no eternal value is not an option, rather let us be sober and vigilant and walk our walk of faith with our all.

Sleeping on the mission
All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship. But Jonah had gone below deck, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep.
Jonah 1:5 (NKJV)
When we take a back seat and go on vacation on Kingdom work, we not only do ourselves a great disservice, but we also put folks around us in jeopardy, unnecessary hardship and confusion. The called cannot and must not act like the 'uncalled'. The mission for everyone is different likewise we must come head-on with our purpose mission for every call in life has a timing dimension to it.
Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
1 Thessalonian 5:6 (NKJV)
Let us awake from scheduling kingdom work and mission according to our timing. We will spare innocent souls around us pain and anguish if we get about our mission in Him. Our life is a life redeemed for dedication to God’s work and glory; let’s pray for strength to fulfill our calling and mission. Sleeping on the mission is dangerous, the stakes for our lives are high, let’s awake to His righteousness and be about kingdom business.
